Judit - a Grand Chess Master Froglet

In honour of Judit Polgár, one of 3 chess player sisters, 2 of whom were grand masters in a time where men dominated the chess world.

Hello Knitting Cabbage Heads,

(I write up the story of these froglets because their stories happen mainly over on Notes, and I know some people only see posts not Notes)

This little one avoided a long wait in the pool of Life. Here she is front left, and this is her first appearance. I wanted to see if the mountains of cotton yarn I had was suitable for making a vegan frog. Spoiler alert, it’s not really - it makes my hands hurt, as it dries them out. And it has a lot less flex to it.

So anyway she had been sat in the Pool of Life for merely a couple of days before she was gifted arms first. We were up in Scotland at this point and I’d brought her and a couple of others along for the ride.

as soon as she had arms she seemed to sense the giant chess set outside and made her way to the window to gaze longingly at it. Then I asked her pose in the flowers for me. This was done willingly though she yearned to be outside with the chess pieces.

Once legs had been delivered she played with a pine cone R brought me from one of his wanders. Then we went outside and into the foliage, before she climbed up and played with the giant chess set explaining various moves to me. I’m not a chess aficionado so I just nodded politely and smiled.

Whilst watching her play on my electric wheelchair I realised I hasn’t given her her smile. No wonder I hadn’t heard her whispers. So smile it was and she immediately told me she was called Judit and loved chess (though I had guessed that second bit).

Before we left Scotland she had one more outside adventure with another new Knitted One (Isabella) and we braved the midges at dusk (sort of wish we hadn’t as I got some very itchy bites) and went to see the stag statue near the loch. They sat on his nose to enjoy the best views. I didn’t take shoes in case they fell off and I didn’t want to searching the brakes for them.

Once home both Isabella and Judit donned dresses and set to having a chess match, Isabella lost and then Judit sat to analyse the match making notes as she went.

After that I decided neither her boots nor dress suited and so set about making a new one for her. Chess competitions require a little more finesse than she previously had on. The white boots add a bit of individuality I feel.

And finally this her teaching Caspian, Little Anna, and Kitty how to play dominoes and keeping them out of trouble so I can get on doing what I need to do.
