Hello you all,
June has certainly been a better month than April.
I was rather pleased with this little bag I made. Designed in my head. I do find the tiny stitches very soothing.
These knitted ones found new homes this month. Star, River-Willow, and Gregory all winged their way off to new homes in Florida, US. Moley went to live with my good friend to join Little Ralph and Trevor in Lincolnshire, UK. Thyme went off to Indiana, US; and Alice, Harper, and Hilary to Maryland, US. Mini Lavender also went off to the US right at the very end of the month.
I find walking into jewellery shops both intimidating and hilarious. Firstly the doors are always locked and you have to be buzzed in. Yes, little old me with my limited mobility and a stick. Then they look you up and down as if to assess a) if you are going to rob the place and b) whether you look like you are actually going to be worth their time cos you might not spend any money, and c) you might not spend a lot of money.
It was our 35th ‘meeting’ anniversary this month and R asked if I’d like an eternity ring. He’s asked once before, 13 years ago, but we were much more skint at the time and I said no on affordability grounds. We have the money this time round and I thought it was wonderfully sweet of him.
So anyway, we find a shop where they sell a lot of secondhand rings, we like secondhand rings, my engagement ring is Victorian and I love it. I don’t ‘do’ what I call flashy and ostentatious stuff. I don’t do big stones that stick out a long way. I want something sleek and flat and simple. Basically a jewellers nightmare.
Now we have a separate issue. I also wear my Granny’s eternity ring, a proper old fashioned one with stones ALL the way round (modern ones tend to stop at 1/3rd) next to my wedding ring as the sizes fit. On my other hand on my little finger I wear my mother’s wedding ring and my engagement ring, cos it’s too small now for my ring finger, it always was extra tight as I have large knuckles and what with arthritis having its say it now no longer fits but goes nicely next to my mother’s ring.
We find 3 rings we like. All under £500 (oh poor jewellery seller). One was an unusual black diamond on gold, another just diamond on gold, and the last sapphire and diamonds. I mean, in all of them, we are talking the tiniest of stones, wee, wee, wee things, barely chips of gems. I try them in and two are either way too small or too big depending on the finger. And the one that looked the best, that sat with the other rings when stacked the best, was the cheapest. I could almost feel the sales assistant weep. Oh well eh! A sale is a sale. And I think it is the sweetest ring around.
The clematis is making a bid for freedom climbing up the chain that stops the shed blowing away in the gales we get. It makes me smile to see nature overwhelming man made structures, and I realise it’s not there yet but give it time.
Rugby again. I love watching the mascot, Ronnie the Rhino, he wanders around the ground and is brilliant with the young kids who love him.
I really struggled in the middle of the month, my cognitive function declined massively and I could barely function. Reading was almost impossible. Writing creatively even harder. Then I realised I’d stopped these pills to see if they were still working. Boy, were they working! I’m back on them now. I think I’ll write a post about my supplements. Isn’t that exciting for you all?😜
I bought my middle one these little forest sprites either last Xmas or the Xmas before. They glow in the dark. Middle one decided to hide them around the house for me to find, without telling me so I’d accidentally stumble upon them. So it’s either taken 18 or 6 months to find them. We both can’t remember if there were 8 or 10 in the original packet, so we are going with 8. Found the last one this month.
Roses in the garden. The first one is in a cage as it was only planted this spring and it’s to stop the chickens digging it up. Freshly turned soil from when you plant something is very enticing to them. The red one flowers all the way until November. The dark pink I’ve ignored and really should give it a good prune this year. The orange is planted in the middle of some bushes and a large willow tree and struggles for light. I’m not sure how to move roses but might have to look into it for next year.
The plants I tend to love the most are often considered weeds and have self seeded. The tenacity of the violet to grow half way up a wall is amazing. The white foxglove has seeded from another garden as we didn’t have any white last year. No idea where the daisies came from and the Sweet Robert is spreading well, much to my joy.
R found this in the garden and brought it to me. A jay’s wing feather. I feel lucky to have it.
Lastly R’s first cricket game this season after being ill. Lovely setting in the grounds of an old mental institution, now flats. A beautiful day where I couldn’t see the screen on my phone so most are ‘point and guess’ so I’m quite pleased. I went for an ill advised (chronic health wise) walk in the woods which I really enjoyed despite the after effects. Did wish I had a decent camera with me though. I loved following the paths with the speckled light.
So that’s it for June. Still the earth continues to turn and time passes by at its usual reckless pace, it will soon be time to post again.
Till then, T x
