Hello my wonderful poetry people,
This week over at
we were looking at alliterative poetry. I’ve been away this week at a very dear friends and haven’t had masses of time for writing, so initially I dug out a very, very, very old poem. The writing prompt for this week was deceptively simple.to practice using some alliteration.
So I present you a piece I wrote a long, long time ago. It employs the style of the Oresteia (Ancient Greek play) lots of alliteration, lots of joined word phrases etc. Not particularly a style I find easy to write, nor to read. This was a given assignment about a particular piece. It certainly has alliteration in it.
untitled
Boiling the bones in the
Blood-bath of the blood-brothers.
Toiling the tilth of the
Treacherous mud-stricken earth.
Mother-sucking babes
Born screaming and moaning.
Breaking the backs of
The innocent slave-born.
This is the low-land of
Blood-brothers, mother-murderers
And slave-owners.
This is the time of
Deadly, stealthy death.
I did try another early this morning before we left to come home. A little less bloody and more contemporary. I am very, very tired at the moment. Had a great time but seriously overdid it. I will spend the next couple of weeks recuperating. Twas worth it.
Sleep now
Slowly sleep seeps away and
wakefulness arrives arrogantly
amid general consternation.
It’s not time,
it’s still dark,
I’m still tired,
let me slumber.
I’ll rise later
when the sun silently grazes the zenith
when the sky is azure blue beyond
when…,
when…,
when…,
but not now.
Not now.
Not now.
Tell me what you think. I’d love to know and get some feedback.
Till next time, peeps.
If you have enjoyed my ramblings I’d love for you to click the ❤️. It pleases the social algorithm, lets others know there’s something interesting here, as well as letting me know you liked it and giving me a little virtual hug. Without virtual hugs I have been know to get sad 😜. Shares are good too and a comment buoys me up even more 😁 A comment of what you liked, what you didn’t etc would be most gratefully appreciated.
Like both the poems. The first one has the authentic classical feel (I think).
Such a great tool for two terrific poems!
Take it easy recuperating - it's hard when we overdo things, isn't it? Hugs.
