Hello my wonderful poetry people,
It has been a year! We can all safely say that and add whatever tone we want to it. Politically it’s been an doozy, but I don’t get too much into that on here, healthwise it’s been a bit bleak, but I think I am turning a small corner on that finally (thank you steroids and antibiotics) and writing wise it’s been amazing.
with has provided such a safe and nurturing space for us, especially those of us late fledged poets who hate speaking out loud. It has been welcoming and warm and uplifting. Here’s to another fantastic year!I enjoyed most of our prompts; villanelles were fun: some were odd; golden shovels: and some I’m still struggling with; looking at you sestinas. But I’ve managed a good few poems and for that I’m very grateful. Nelly asked about our my favourite pieces. I am not sure 🤔. I think I’ve most enjoyed writing about the fantastical. The murder of a poem, the invasion of an ant, lots of encounters with death, and the universe personified - they have been longer poems in general.
I’ve experimented with many forms, about topics I’d rather have left alone, written rather risqué verse and rather trite, but most of all I’ve had fun!
Taking last weeks prompts
I quite like the idea of literally leaving room in my journal to observe and write about seven tiny moments in the coming week. One a day. I might even try and get my kids involved too (always a long shot but I like a challenge). And at some point in future maybe one of those observations will turn into a poem.
But if that all feels too vague, then here are seven single word prompts that could also work:
Anticipation
Unwrap
Night before
Tiny Christmas Poem
Indulge
Light
In between
Write a line a day? Write a few lines a day? Write something. Write nothing.
I managed 1 out of 7. But I did just write too. My friend posted up a pic on FB, and it inspired a poem, and she gave me permission to use the pic too
A Christmas Poem - 3 Faith Cookies
My friend’s daughter made Star of David
Christmas biscuits decorated with
the Palestinian flag.
Which just goes to show
hate and intolerance are learnt
and love and humanity can be
delivered up in in one tasty bite.
Now I have to admit, I don’t know if they are tasty. That’s my poetic license there. But said child is a young teenager not 6, so I’m assuming hands were washed and recipes followed co
As always if you have enjoyed my ramblings, or even just vaguely liked then, or just gotten to the end. I’d love for you to click the ❤️. It pleases the social algorithm, lets others know there’s something interesting here, as well as letting me know you liked it and giving me a little virtual hug. Without virtual hugs I have been know to get sad 😜. Shares are good too and a comment buoys me up even more 😁 A comment of what you liked, what you didn’t etc would be most gratefully appreciated.
Till next time, peeps. Tx
I would say that is a perfect poem, and hereby proclaim it to be the Political Poem winner of 2024. You are now allowed to eat an entire plate of them! Also, I'm glad you got your health sort of on track, kind of like me, I'd say that's another big win. Someone I hadn't seen in ages told me yesterday I looked far healthier than before....of course my brain went straight to weight gain ... but I told my brain to go and jump in the lake, and managed to take the compliment well into the afternoon. It's faded now...I'd better go find that person again! I hope we all keep on writing poetry that pleases us. xx Cesca
Love this poem. Short and sweet ❤️. Says exactly what it needs to say.
