Hello my wonderful poetry people,
Nelly at
sent us these few prompts, oooo, ages back in the melee of Christmas time and I’ve been slowly working on the prompts; noticing things, writing them down and then seeing which of the prompts they might fit and working them into a poem or poem-ette. Christmas was nice and quiet and gave many opportunities for reflection.Your Writing Prompts for this Week:
I quite like the idea of literally leaving room in my journal to observe and write about seven tiny moments in the coming week. One a day. I might even try and get my kids involved too (always a long shot but I like a challenge). And at some point in future maybe one of those observations will turn into a poem.
But if that all feels too vague, then here are seven single word prompts that could also work:
Anticipation
Unwrap
Night before
Tiny Christmas Poem
Indulge
Light
In between
Write a line a day? Write a few lines a day? Write something. Write nothing. Just find yourself a comfy spot on a sofa with a nice drink and some poetry to read.
I’ve managed a few. I sort of did a bit of both parts of the prompt so of course I feel quite proud of myself. 😊
My Present (prompt ‘unwrap’) I want to unwrap you, snuggle into you, folding my arms round you pulling you into my love like the duvet you bundle tight round your body and head laying quietly in the bed next to me oblivious to your image in my poem. Light Drips (prompt ‘light’) Light edges across the room, illuminating dado, pictures, and dusty cobwebs alike I watch it creep like time dripping through the day its passage erratic purely dependant on the weather Indulgence (prompt ‘indulge’) I am carrying 3lbs of inflammation comprising of 2 croissants, 1 Yorkshire pudding a small share of a chocolate brioche wreath, and a variety of chocolate and some fudge. 2 egg nogs, non alcoholic, with squirty cream and edible gold dust watered down with non alcoholic Bailey’s, though obviously it’s not Bailey’s cos copyright and marketing but it tastes just the same. I didn’t eat all my dinner, only discovering the meat once I was stuffed, I even left 2 roast potatoes behind. And now I’m carrying 3lbs of inflammation In a body that’s screaming. Anticipation (prompt ‘anticipation ’) I don’t know what to do, and I’m too embarrassed to ask so I’ll knock out some words in a poetic form and hope, beyond hope, they are right.
So there you go, four poems for you, hopefully they will make up for my remissness recently. I may not post on a regular schedule but I am working on stuff all the time, I promise. I’m trying to write some serious poems, you know the ones that you aren’t sure what they mean but they seem good. I’m not naturally good at it it seems. But plod on I will.
Till next time, peeps. Tx
If you have enjoyed my ramblings I’d love for you to click the ❤️. It pleases the social algorithm, lets others know there’s something interesting here, as well as letting me know you liked it and giving me a little virtual hug. Without virtual hugs I have been know to get sad 😜. Shares are good too and a comment buoys me up even more 😁 A comment of what you liked, what you didn’t etc would be most gratefully appreciated.
I really like these. I'm kind of tempted to circle back and try these, even though Christmas is over. I love:
"laying quietly in the bed next to me
oblivious to your image in my poem."
I love the ease with which these words flow on the ‘page’ Tamsin as I read them x
