Hello Red Cabbage Head readers,
Yay! It is on time, just. A spookily written poem for a spooky season.
It is All Hallows Eve and Spooky Fills the Air
The Witches gather them and send them.
Send them to thrill us, to scare us,
in the quietest hour, the darkest hour
after midnight, the witching hour.
They send them, send them, send them.
The Goblin to beneath the bed springs,
to grin a toothy leer, ease a creaking cackle
through teeth grim and cracked,
night creeping to make dreaming foul
The Boggart to the smallest, darkest closet
to scowl and moan, fold long its twiggy legs
to hide bundled in cotton, linen, wool;
waiting for the bairns to scare
The Ghostly trio to float wild and free
scaring where’er they wish,
The Pixies to kitchen mischief make,
Elves to the rooftop clatter,
Brownies to the wall tops rise,
And Fairies in the long grass dance.
Then Black Shuck to roam the land
his wild red eyes shining bright
innocent souls to eat he seeks,
do not meet him on the road tonight
lest death before you leaps.
The Witches gather them and send them.
Send them to thrill us, to scare us,
in the quietest hour, the darkest hour
after midnight, the witching hour.
They send them, send them, send them here.
So that’s all folks, ‘til next time, and next week.
If you have enjoyed my ramblings I’d love for you to click the ❤️. It pleases the social algorithm, lets others know there’s something interesting here, as well as letting me know you liked it and giving me a little virtual hug. Without virtual hugs I have been know to get sad 😜. Shares are good too and a comment buoys me up even more 😁 A comment of what you liked, what you didn’t etc would be most gratefully appreciated.
I loved it 🥰
My favorite stanza:
"The Goblin to beneath the bed springs,
to grin a toothy leer, ease a creaking cackle
through teeth grim and cracked,
night creeping to make dreaming foul"
And I love the repetition of "They send them, send them, send them."
