Hello Red Cabbage Head readers,
Quite a while ago I spent a very frantic week submitting poems to everywhere I could think of. And I discovered a small online magazine that on’y accepted tiny poems. I found this intriguing and acer scouring my back catalogue (all of it a I’d never submitted before I found a couple and then wrote one that just happened. It flowed as I wrote it and I edited it minimally as I wanted to submit them all asap.
Out of the four, this quickly written, minimally edited poem was the one that was accepted. I did like it, but I didn’t think it was the best of the 4. My brother spent a good 10 mins reading it and trying to analyse what I meant by it all, what my beliefs were that his poem held. It isn’t that deep. It was just an image I had in my head I translated into words. This shows that poetry is so very subjective. Poems I’ve put on here I adore have inspired crickets and tumble weed. Poems I’ve put on here that I don’t like have inspired the most likes and comments. I can’t tell what is wanted so I just give it a try. You should just give it a try, you never know what might happen, and the worst is a no, which leaves you exactly back where you started, a zero sum activity. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.
I thank tinywrenlit for accepting my poem, go check out the rest too.
The Ultimate Recycling
When I’m gone
someone else will
fill the hole I
left in the universe
and my atoms
will recycle
into the void of
another’s exit.
My demise is
never final.
