Dear knitting people,
This is the visual story of how Badger and (not) Mouse came into being. (I’m going to try to a post on all of these animals. I am aware I’m quite a way behind too. Oops, sorry.)
I have been using patterns by Claire Garland (@Dot Pebbles Knit) for most of these little animals. She has a fab Instagram account.
I was remiss with photographing the beginning of badger because of the black yarn, it’s never easy to work with let alone photograph.

So Badger (no name as of yet all suggestions gratefully accepted), pic 1 is an ignominious pic of an almost finished but very deflated and unstuffed head and body, no arms or legs yet. I find before the head is made up or stuffed they all seem very lifeless. And then woot, woot, there they are little individuals with inbuilt personalities and I begin to love them (except when they are ugly little buggers cos I got something wrong, then destuffing is necessary and the bin approaches). Pic 2 is him all finished and togged up in dark green dungarees, I think this was a bad colour for him, something lighter would be a better contrast. Next for him was pince nez. Again first time making these so next time they will be better - pic 3. I haven’t found shoes to fit him yet but he has a snazzy waistcoat in bright yellow instead. I’m rather loving the little metal buttons a mere 3mm! And then lastly pic 4 we have whiskers. The jury is still out on these but it’s a probable yes. He needs work on his hands and his ears.
Anyhoo, that’s Badger. Now for Mousey. Now I have to admit I got a bit overconfident here and was taking photos at every stage with great inticipation of the wonder I was creating. And then at the end it all went disastrously wrong. So mouse is a no show. He’s on the trash piles just waiting for me to rescue the safety eyes before being consigned to the bin. I don’t really know exactly where it all went wrong. But somewhere around the feet, which I really hate and will do differently next time, and sewing up the face so it’s far too pointed and gazing at the moon instead of looking outward to the world. I may undo the seams and try again if I can unpick those feet and do some thing different. Or I might not bother. The apathy is strong in me today.

I will attempt another mouse, either this pattern or another. So that’s that. I still have Moley and Chicken to show you. Before we start getting fully into more exciting adventures than just being made.
If you have any suggestions for photo opportunities for the tribe, or any ideas for other animals you’d like to see let me know below. I do post updates on Notes more regularly if you want more regular updates.
If you have enjoyed my ramblings I’d love for you to click the ❤️. It pleases the social algorithm, lets others know there’s something interesting here, as well as letting me know you liked it and giving me a little virtual hug. Without virtual hugs I have been know to get sad 😜. Shares are good too and a comment buoys me up even more 😁 A comment of what you liked, what you didn’t etc would be most gratefully appreciated.
these are gorgeous! i’m knitting as we speak, though scarves are still the extent of my capability🥰
