Hello my wonderful poetry people,
This week over at
we were looking at journaling and poetry. I don’t tend to journal systematically, but I do keep a notebook handy when I’m not by my iPad. So we were looking at list poems and thinking about success.This weeks prompt.
This week I’m inviting you to write a list poem containing your personal, ‘Success Metrics’ (what your definition of ‘success’ looks like).
As always, if you’d prefer to take this whole writing prompt in a different direction then please do. Who says it has to be a list?! You could just do a spot of journaling first and see where you end up, ha.
Being a tad poorly every day means I don’t have big metrics of things like climbing a mountain or swimming an ocean. And some days just remembering to keep breathing is success in itself.
Success Metrics for the Chronically Ill
Peeling an orange
in one twisting twirling go
citrus essence on the air
Kissing your delightful lips
smooth, soft, and luscious
drinking you in daily
Breathing the summer breeze
scented by roses and foxgloves
sunshine dappling the day
The ache in my heart
when we are forced apart
sharp and desperate
Crisp warm toast dripping
in butter and local honey
tasting of heather and rain
The bliss in my heart
when we are reunited again
